Cleaning a Home with Dogs, Cats and Horses

Pet hair, dander and barn dust: how to keep a Parker County home clean when the animals outnumber the people.

How-to·4 min read·Updated October 29, 2026

Most of our clients have animals. This is how we keep up, and how you can between visits.

The three problems

Hair that embeds in upholstery and corners, dander that settles on every horizontal surface, and whatever comes in on boots and paws from the barn or the yard.

Hair

A rubber-bristle broom pulls hair out of carpet and rugs better than most vacuums. Vacuum upholstery with the brush attachment weekly. Wash pet bedding on hot. Keep a lint roller by the door, not in a drawer.

Dander and odor

Dander is dust, so dusting more often is the whole answer. Wipe surfaces with a damp microfiber rather than a dry duster that just moves it. For odor, enzyme cleaners break down the source; air fresheners cover it for an hour. Baking soda on carpet before vacuuming helps between deep cleans.

Barn to house

A hard-floored mudroom with a boot tray and a dog towel saves more cleaning than any product. Keep tack and arena clothes out of the living area. If you have a well, the dust is also carrying hard-water minerals, so wipe the dog bowl area daily.

What we do differently

Pet homes get HEPA vacuuming, more time on upholstery and corners, and pet-safe products on request. Tell us about your animals when you book so the crew knows who is home.

Questions

Are your products safe for pets?

Yes, and we can use fragrance-free or specific products you provide if you prefer.

Do I need to crate my dog?

Only if the dog is uncomfortable with strangers. Most of our regulars just get a scratch behind the ears.

Do you charge more for pet homes?

No. The recurring rate is the same.

Rather have us handle it?
